Samsung Launched Galaxy Star: Cheapest Galaxy Smartphone with Jelly Bean at Rs 5,240

Samsung is intensifying the war of price in the rapid growing smartphone market of India and has launched its cheapest Galaxy series phone named as 'Star' at a price of Rs 5,240. Among all the Galaxy range handsets, Star is the cheapest and is a rival for Nokia’s Asha smartphones and other devices of Micromax and Karbonn. Earlier, Galaxy Y was the cheapest among the Galaxy devices and was available for Rs 5,890. This entry-level smartphone is a dual-SIM device and grants superior value to the consumers on grounds of its features, insightful performance and design.



The Samsung Galaxy Star is built with a 3.0 inches (~133 ppi pixel density) TFT capacitive touchscreen multitouch display which resembles a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. It runs on Android OS, v4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system and is powered by 1 GHz processor along with accelerometer as sensor. It is enabled with an internal memory of 4 GB and 512 MB RAM along with the support of external microSD expandable up to 32 GB.

This dual-sim device is embedded with a 2 MP camera resembling 1600x1200 pixels along with video support of QVGA@15fps. The device supports GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot and Bluetooth v4.0 for connectivity. Its sound features include alert types such as Vibration and MP3 ringtones, loudspeaker and 3.5mm audio jack. It supports video in MP4, WMV and H.264 player formats while it also supports audio in MP3, WAV, eAAC+ player formats.

Other miscellaneous features are SMS(threaded view), MMS, Email, Push Email, IM, HTML browser, Stereo FM radio with RDS, FM recording, Java MIDP emulator, SNS integration, Organizer, Image and video editor, Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk, Picasa, Document viewer, Voice memo and commands and Predictive text input.

It is boosted by a Li-Ion 1200 mAh battery that holds charge up to long hours. It measures 105 x 58 x 11.9 mm (4.13 x 2.28 x 0.47 in) in dimensions and weighs 100.5 g (3.53 oz). The device comes in Black, White and Blue colors. With this, Samsung’s portfolio includes 15 smartphones priced between Rs 5,240 and Rs 41,500. CyberMedia Research (CMR) reports that more than 221 million handsets were shipped to India in 2012.
