Eesha Khare from Saratoga, California was awarded as the Young Scientist by the Intel Foundation for inventing the tiny super-capacitor and received $50,000 as cash prize. This tiny device easily gets placed inside mobile phone batteries and ensures a charge within 20-30 seconds. Eesha’s project aimed to design and synthesize a super-capacitor having increased energy density while also maintaining power density along with long life cycle.

Eesha has specialized nanotechnology and this is the mechanism used for this tiny super-capacitor. This device is capable of holding lots of energy, charges quickly and holds the charge for a long span of time. Importantly, she gained tech giant Google’s attention towards her amazing invention and this is in fact a big deal. This tiny device holds a charge which is capable of lasting for 10,000 recharge cycles in comparison to 1,000 cycles for conventional rechargeable battery. According to the teenager, her cellphone battery always dies and this is what inspired her to work on the energy-storage technology.
