Latest BBM Update Allows You To Find Friends Using Your Contacts

BlackBerry have released an update to their popular BBM app for Android and iPhone. According to Jeff Gardaway, head of product and brand marketing for BBM, BBM now includes a new Find Friends feature that allows you to discover people you know that are also using BBM and invite them to your BBM contact list, from within the app.

The Find Friends feature will detect which contacts in your smartphone’s contact list are already using BBM, and allow you to quickly send them an invite to join your BBM contact list. For those contacts that don’t yet have BBM, you can invite them to download the app with an email or SMS invite.

This is not a bad development and update from BlackBerry. However, we are still expecting that promised BBM Channels and Voice for Android and iOS devices to drop, perhaps in the BBM 2.0 that is in the works.

Infinix Valentine Promo: How To Be The Lucky Winner

Infinix Mobility, global player in smart phone manufacturing, has unveiled a Valentine’s consumer promotion tagged, ‘Share the Love Promo.’

The promo, which runs between January 27 and February 12 this year, is designed to reward the customers of Infinix phones for the Valentine season.

The grand prize of the promo is an all-expense paid weekend getaway for a couple at a beautiful resort, the company said in a statement, adding that other prizes included a dinner for a couple at an exquisite Chinese restaurant and free movie tickets as consolation prizes.

The firm said, “To qualify for this promo, a consumer needs to buy any of the Infinix smart phones: X502 (Alpha Marvel), X402 (Alpha Diamond) or X570 (Alpha); write a short love note to their partner, post the love note on the Infinix Facebook page (www.facebook.com/InfinixMobile) or drop it with an Infinix in-store rep while indicating the IMEI of the phone bought and their contact details.

“Customers with the highest likes on Facebook and the customer with the best love note submitted at the Infinix in-stores will be selected. Winners will be contacted on February 13 to redeem their prizes.”

Infinix Mobility Head of Marketing, Mr. Peter Zhou, was quoted in the statement as saying that the brand believed in the strengthening of relationships and therefore wanted to use the opportunity of the Valentine season to re-ignite bonds between couples.

He said, “Infinix Mobility brand’s promise is to add fun to the way consumers communicate, work and play. In furtherance of this belief, we have designed this promo to encourage consumers to connect better with their spouses.

“If you look at the promo prizes – weekend getaway, dinner for a couple and movie tickets to the cinema – they were carefully selected to re-enact the love flame.

“We encourage the consumers to buy the Infinix smart phones and they could be the promo lucky winners.”

Tecno S7 Smartphone Now Available, Comes With Following Specs and Features

It's being weeks that we got the information that Tecno is about to release the next version of their "S" low end smartphone - Tecno S7, the one to succeed the S5.

Well, the wait is over and Tecno Mobile have finally released Tecno S7 android smartphone to the market.

The specifications and features of the newly released phone did not deviate from the rumored spec we heard which may be a sort of disappointment for some. However it may be, we will still list the specifications below for your consumption and to clear all doubts.

Network and SIM

Tecno S7 comes with a dual mini SIM with dual standby which is not a new thing though as Nigerians are already accustomed to dual SIM phones.

This time around, the SIM would be placed one above the other with SIM 1 below and SIM 2 above just as depicted in the image below.

As far as network connection is concerned, the S7 has the usual 2G, 3G and 3.75G network connection and can also exchange data at a high speed of 27mbps.

Tecno S7 has its Network band as GSM900/DSC1800/WCDMA2100MHZ and dimensions of the smartphone is 146.5*75.6*10.6 mm.

Display and Resolution

The Tecno S7 comes with a 5.0 inch TFT FWVGA display with resolution of 480 * 854 which gives you a pixel density of 195.93PPI. This may not go well for some folks but hey! its a low end smartphone.

Processor and RAM
Tecno S7 comes with a dual core 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6572 processor which runs the software on the device. The area that is really going to piss people off is the area of RAM.

It is believed that Tecno shouldn't be doing any 512MB RAM smartphone as of 2014. Alas, Tecno S7 comes with 512MB of RAM.

This is not the only Chinese company with a RAM of 512mb. Others like Gionee P3 and some Micromax devices comes with 512MB. However, to be above these upcoming devices trying to take market share from Tecno in Nigeria, it would have been better if all their low end device now come shipped with 1GB RAM and their high end device comes with 2GB RAM minimum. That is what competition is all about.

Operating System and Memory
Tecno S7 comes with Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 which is near the stock Android version. As it stands, we still don't know when Tecno will step up their game and start bringing devices with at least 4.3 Android Jelly Bean.

As far as memory goes, the internal memory of the S7 is 4GB while a memory expansion slot already carrying 8GB SD Card is provided in the device. The memory card can be expanded to 32GB if you please.

Camera
Tecno S7 comes with 5.0MP AF back camera with flash while the front camera comes with 1.3MP camera.

Connectivity and Battery
The usual suspects when it comes to connectivity are GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm Earphone and that is what you would find on the Tecno S7.

Battery powering the S7 is a Li-ion battery with power 2000mAh with 3.7V emanating from the device at any point in time.

According to Tecno, talk time on the device stands at 6.5hrs with 200hrs of standby time. Daily and real life usage will test the dependability of the battery.

Sensors, Messaging and SNS
With sensors, we were not really expecting anything grand aside what we were already used to. The Tecno S7 comes with Gyro, Light and Proximity sensors.

For messaging and SNS, Gmail, Palmchat and Facebook are pre-installed on the device. Also, Twitter, Operamini, Whatsapp and other apps come bundled with the smartphone. BBM isn't preinstalled so you would have to download that by yourself.

Other apps in stored on the phone but not installed include Camera360, Power Saving, Quick Office, Holy Bile, Quran, Angry Birds, Moboplayer, Fruit Ninja Free, Google+, Light Wallpaper, English-Dictionary, Espn Score Centre, Yahoo Messenger, Twitter, UC Browser, CamCard, Peacefmonline, Adobe Flashplayer, VIBER, Shazam, Linkedin, 2go, Spinlet, Skynews /Yahoo News,Instagram

The price for this Tecno S7 is N23,000 from Divine Anyi Communications, Zenco Plaza computer village, Ikeja, Lagos.
Other stores don't have it yet and the one we saw that now have it is selling for N24,000. Consequently, if you are thinking of getting this device, you should go to the store with the cheaper price. You can call this number 08060791362 to get yours.

How to Unroot Any Android Device

Rooting any Android device is becoming very easy nowadays and the same should be said for unrooting Android devices too.

For one reason or the other, unrooting of Android may be needed either to correct an issue or to avoid voiding the warranty when presenting the device to manufacturers for swapping or repairs

Which ever reason it is, the tutorial below should help unroot your Android device whether Samsung, HTC, Tecno etc.

Requirements

1. Rooted android device

2. Device with Clock World Mod installed not supported (requires more steps than the ones stated)

Procedures

1. Go to Play Store and download ES File Explorer. Don't move to SD card.

2. Launch app, click on the slash button

3. Tap the phone menu button to reveal new options

4. tap Root Explore setting it to ON

5. Superuser will ask you to grant super privilege or root privileges to the app. Allow it

6. Now go to the System folder as shown in the image below, then bin folder, then find su file. Long press SU to select and then delete.

7. Now go into xbin folder which is also located in the System folder

8. Delete the su file there

9. Now go to app folder, also located in the System folder and delete the Superuser.apk file shown in the image

10. Finally reboot your device. That's all, very easy

Your Android device would immediately be unrooted after doing this.

Samsung's Unpacked 5 Event Gets A Date

Samsung has officially announced the next Samsung Unpacked event which is usually a press event to unveil the things they have in their waiting room to reveal to the whole world.

The date was announced from their twitter handle and the event is scheduled for February 24th which is also the opening day of the Mobile World Congress.

This year unpacked event is known as Samsung Unpacked 5. The "5" in it may suggest that Samsung may use the event to unveil the next generation of the Samsung Galaxy S series; Galaxy S5. If this is the case, then we are in for treat in the next few weeks.

World Mobile Congress is happening in Barcelona and Samsung have chosen that same date to perhaps gracefully unveil the Samsung Galaxy S5 along with its features, specifications and price tag. The event for 24th February is labeled as Episode 1, which suggests that other activities are also in the calendar line up.

However, whatever product it is that Samsung wants to unveil it won't generate as much razzmatazz as the Samsung Galaxy S5. Personally, I can't wait to see what the device would be and look like.

Apple device Now jailbroken for life

Devices with Apple A5x processors can now be jailbroken for life. This is the position that the popular hacker iH8sn0w have made us see in one of the tweets he posted.

In the words of iH8sn0w

"So looks like all my A5(X) devices are fully untethered and jailbroken for life now.

Not many people understand what that means. Basically, What it means is that no matter what iOS version you are running on your A5x device, it will always be jailbreakable just like how iPhone 4 (A4 devices) can be jailbroken tethered on any iOS version.

Now the exploit found by iH8sn0w is a iBoot exploit (Not bootrom exploit) which is not in a complete state yet. However, when it does become complete those that have an iPhone 4S, iPad 2 & 3, iPad mini and iPod touch 5 will able to untether jailbreak their devices whenever a new iOS device is released.

While this is a kinda good news, it's not so much knowing that these devices with the A5x processors will become obsolete soon enough perhaps with only iOS 8 to be supported on them.

Furthermore, because the exploit is an iBoot exploit, it can easily be patched by Apple in subsequent iOS firmware.

Jay Freeman (Saurik) puts it this way

For informational purposes (as many people reading might not appreciate the difference), to get the encryption keys you only need an "iBoot exploit", not a "bootrom exploit". It is easier to find iBoot exploits (being later in the boot sequence, it has a larger attack surface: it has to be able to parse filesystems, for example), and they do afford more power over the device than an untethered userland exploit (in addition to letting you derive firmware encryption keys, you can boot custom kernels, and you might be able to dump the bootrom itself), but they are software updatable as part of new firmware releases from Apple and may have "insane setup requirements" (like, you might pretty much need an already-jailbroken device to actually setup the exploit). You thereby wouldn’t see an iBoot exploit used for a jailbreak (unless everyone is out of ideas for a very long time): instead, you’d see it hoarded away as a "secret weapon" used by jailbreakers to derive these encryption keys, making it easier to find and implement exploits on newer firmware updates for the same device (especially kernel exploits, where even if you have an arbitrary write vulnerability you are "flying blind" and thinking "ok, now where should I write? I can’t see anything… :’(").

Actually, it's a little too soon to say how this exploit will develop into something really big if it will ever be, but we shall keep close eyes on this to see how things finally turn out in the future for the jailbreak community.
